InfoUse, a company based in Berkeley, CA, uses the power of information, technology, and participatory research to improve community equity, access and outcomes. Our planning work in disability, employment, independent living, and health empowers people to make personal and systems changes. This series of Chartbooks was developed with funding from the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR).

This section of our site lists a variety of organizations that have been identified as resources for specific topics in disability data. We will be building this list as we find additional relevant sites.

U.S. Government Organizations and Resources

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention — In addition to the main CDC site, there are also specific pages for:

  • Disability and Health Team — Describes programs, publications and data on maintaining and improving health of families, adults and children with disabilities.
  • National Center for Health Statistics — Offers access to surveys and data collection systems, as well as news releases, fact sheets, publications and other information.

Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics — Presents data from surveys on work and labor force participation, publications, and links to other statistical sites.

National Center for Education Statistics — Provides publications and other resources on special education statistics.

National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR) — Provides information about a wide range of disability research and publications, as well as links to other sites that collect disability data.

Office of Special Education — Provides national data on special education.

Social Security Administration — The SSA Office of Policy releases statistics monthly on OASDI and SSI, along with other data and publications.

U.S. Census Bureau — Disability-related information from the 1990 and 2000 Census, including information from:

  • CPS — Current Population Survey
  • SIPP — Survey of Income and Program Participation

American Foundation for the Blind — Contains several fact sheets on aging, education, orientation, and general blindness issues.

Berkeley Policy Associates — Publications on disability and health include information on women with disabilities, families of adults with disabilities, vocational rehabilitation, and long-term care.

Center for Personal Assistance Services at UCSF — Provides research, training, dissemination and technical assistance on issues of personal assistance services in the U.S.

Center for Research on Women with Disabilities — Describes research based on the National Study of Women with Disabilities and presents information on access to health care, abuse and other topics on women and disability.

Department of Disability and Human Development of the University of Illinois at Chicago — Currently running research programs on the epidemiology and demography of disability, on health promotion, and on minorities with disabilities.

Disability Statistics at Cornell — Provides statistics on topics such as the prevalence of disabilities and employment and disability.

Disability Statistics Center at UCSF — Produces and disseminates policy-relevant statistical information on the demographics and status of people with disabilities in American society.

International Center for Disability Information at University of West Virginia — Presents detailed tables on disability statistics, derived from a variety of sources

Louis Harris Data Center — Describes results of Louis Harris public opinion polls on disability.

National Business and Disability Council — Acts as a resource for corporations that are hiring, working with and marketing to people with disabilities.

National Center for the Dissemination of Disability Research (NCDDR) — Presents summaries of NIDRR-funded research on disability, news releases and links to many other sites that collect data.

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation — Information from and about the nation's largest philanthropy devoted exclusively to health and health care.
