Independent Living Needs Assessment

The Independent Living Needs Assessment for Unserved and Underserved People with Disabilities was a project for the California Department of Rehabilitation.

InfoUse conducted a statewide needs study for the State Independent Living Council (SILC) and the California Department of Rehabilitation. The study has helped policymakers to develop the California SILC plan. The needs assessment included several data collection and public input methods in order to assure a wide range of public participation. People with disabilities had a number of opportunities to participate in the study. Key features of our plan include:

  • Public forums
    • Public forums were held at different locations around the state on topics on disabilities and independent living.
  • Focus groups
    • InfoUse conducted 14 focus groups throughout California, involving 130 people with disabilities in discussions about their needs.
  • The Independent Living Needs Survey
    • InfoUse developed an on-line survey to gather data through the Internet.
